The Red Herring Guest Cottage is a private hideaway on our home property.

This cottage was designed by our friends— Vancouver architect Alan Endall and Interior Designer Celine Pitre. Both are used to working on complex urban projects and sophisticated interiors so our cottage was a “ red herring” in their portfolio repertoire for sure!

The cottage features a dramatic 14-foot window wall which flaunts ocean vistas, peak-a-boo views of migrating whales, the landmark Swallowtail Lighthouse, and unadulterated stargazing from bed. Much like our stone home, the Red Herring cottage is humble upon approach while architecturally modern once inside.

This charming 360 square foot pied-à-terre is a peaceful location to hang your hat while visiting Grand Manan Island.

A 1938 collection of photographs by George Daniell are featured in the cottage. The images depict the island’s rich smoked herring industry, once the world’s largest.
